What to think about when considering upgrading my graphics card?

Hello all,

I currently have a HP Envy Phoenix 860-077na desktop which shipped with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970. I am thinking about upgrading my 970 to a 1070 or a 1080. In particular the EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 8 GB SC ACX 3.0 interests me. I was wondering what I need to keep in mind about this, as it is a fairly sizable investment for me at £639.99. I am aware of there possibly being a problem with the power supply I have at the moment, which caps out at 500 watts, so I am also entertaining the idea of upgrading that to a 750 watt one, specifically the Coolmaster G750M Modular ATX PSU - 750 W.

There are three major issues which worry me. Firstly, how can I tell if both the new graphics card and power supply is compatible with my P.C.? Secondly, will the new graphics card even fit? The new power supply should, as it is almost exactly the same size as my current one. Thirdly, I am considering paying Currys PC World to install them both, as I have no experience doing such a thing and I am far too scared that I will damage them if I try to install what. What I don't want to happen is for me to pay for both items and for one or both to not fit or work, thereby wasting my money. Any help on these points would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reading,
Luke Murtagh.

Most PSU's are compatible. You can run them through pcpartpicker.com to confirm. Simply input your GPU, and then choose the PSU and it will inform whether they are compatible.

If you are scared, and unclear on what to do, then perhaps it would be best to go with Curry's.

I am not too sure what Curry's does as part of the process of doing it for you, but I would recommend that you uninstall all GPU drivers for the 970 beforehand using DDU, take it to Curry's, get it swapped out, then boot up and install the new drivers. Just to be safe.

I would choose this PSU instead:
