I'm looking to put a workstation together for use with 3ds max rendering with v-ray. I will be doing architectural stills and walkthrough animations.

I'm pretty set on 32gig of ram and a Nvidia P4000 quadro card.

I was wondering which would be the better option for a processor for this work.

my budget for the processor is $600 USD, so I'm looking at an Intel i7 7820x or an AMD threadripper 1900x

Which of these (or another processor for $600) will give me the best performance?

Solution
I believe it comes down to board features - at least with those two cpus.
With threadripper motherboards, you at least have access to all 64 pcie lanes, whereas on intel's x299, the 7820x gets you only 28, and you'd need to step up to the 7900x to get the full 44 lanes.
If you have other add-on cards, or plan to get some down the road, the 7820x would be pretty limiting.
