Hi,

I am thinking of upgrading my GTX 970 to a EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 8 GB SC ACX 3.0, but I am worried that my chassis won’t be big enough. The dimensions of my chassis are as follows:

H: 36.8 cm.
W: 17.6 cm.
D: 39 cm.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks for the model name. Your PC comes with a (looks like reference model) GTX 970 which is 10.5 inches long so the EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 8 GB SC ACX 3.0 will fit as it is also 10.5 inches long.

The newer card would be 10.5inches or 270mm. No idea which GTX 970 you have but if your case can fit a GTX 970 it can probably fit a GTX 1080. Giving the name of your case would also help. As long as it's not smaller than mid tower you should have no issues.

Thanks for responding!

I don’t know the name of my case. Here is the help page from HP which lists some details about my PC, and it doesn’t give a name for the case. https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c04818332

I’m also not sure which exact GTX 970 it is. Is there a way for me to find out on my computer the exact model of 970?

Thanks.

Thanks for your help, but I have one final question.

I am looking at places to buy the graphics card from, and they apparently all have different dimensions listed. The official EVGA site says the 1080 card has exactly the same dimensions as my current 970, whilst on Amazon the dimensions are listed as 4.2 x 14 x 28 cm, and PC World also has different dimensions listed, specifically
70 x 240 x 325 mm. I understand that the EVGA site lists the dimensions in inches, Amazon in cm and PC World in mm, but why are they all different if they are exactly the same card? When they are translated into inches they are all different numbers to the ones provided by EVGA.

Here are the sites in question:

My thought is it's just measurement error. I'd trust the manufacturer's number first. Newegg also uses 10.5 inches. Amazon UK gives 28 cm/11inches as the card length. Not seeing 325mm, that would be very off at 12.8 inches. I'd assume the card is either 10.5 inches or close to that with 11 inches at the longest. If you find the card touches that support brace you could always take it out and have the card coming out more towards the drive bay area. They do not appear to block the card however you may have to push some PSU cables out of the way.
