Mouse and Keyboard sometimes become unresponsive. What is the cause?

Ok, so basically for the past couple of months I've been witnessing what looks to me like motherboard related issues. But I need help troubleshooting this. I want to be sure before I go shopping for a new motherboard and CPU.

Basically, if I leave my computer idle for a moment at a time, just to walk away and get a beverage or something, most of the time, my mouse and keyboard will no longer be active. They won't accept any input. It's not that they disconnect or anything. It's just that moving the mouse around won't do anything with the cursor. Clicking does nothing. Hitting any key on the keyboard does nothing.

But sometimes, they'll become responsive again after a moment. This never ever ever happens in the middle of usage.

Unfortunately though, the solution most of the time is to get up, disconnect the devices and plug them back in.

Is this my motherboard? Is this Windows? Help me out. Thanks in advance.

As CountMike said it's related to USB power-saving settings. It's annoying as fuck. in Device Manager you can find the devices and change the power management settings. I suggest you set it to never allowing sleep for USB devices.

I just did this and I'll have to give it some time before I can confirm it was the solution as the issue was kinda unpredictable. I'm hoping for the best though as that means I can hold off on forking out money for a new mobo.

ETA: Yep that did it.
