8700k 5ghz 1,4v not stable?

i have delidded 8700k, aorus 7 mobo. scythe ninja 3 air cooler with two noctua fans. the temps are quite good. max 70c on full load 5ghz 1.40v. but it keeps crashing, i have tried all guides on google but cant seem to get it stable. what i do wrong? is my chip that bad?

Not every CPU will hit 5 GHz easily...

There might be other settings in the BIOS you can tweak to achieve 5 GHz....; I'd find a detailed review on your specific mainboard that includes overclocking, often there will be detailed notes on what all settings they used to achieve a given OC...

I have the same setup as you except for the cooler which is an AIO on mine. My neww rig is 8700K not delidded, Gigabyte Aorus Gaming 7 and 360mm AIO.

Your temps are fantastic at 5GHz so the delid worked very well but your vcore is very high at 1.4v. Is this a fixed vcore or have you tried adaptive/ofset?

Check the above thread first as it will give you a lot of information on getting a stable overclock for this CPU/Motherboard combination as the settings below will probably be confusing!!!!

Fixed vcore:

Cliffno from overclcokers on delid 8700K overclock:
i7-8700k @ 4.9GHz-5GHz start with 1.35v and adjust (see below) If it works, drop vcore a little if not increas vcore a little.
Load XMP
Set Multi to 49
Disable C-states
Disable VT-d (not an option for virtual machine users IMO)
Set Uncore frequency to 45 multiplier , 40 multiplier to start
Adjust V_Core under M.I.T. page under 1.35V suggested , starting with 1.28V
---> V_Core adjusts Uncore as well
LLC set to Turbo

For Offset you have to key in 'Norm' at CPU vcore where you applied the fixed vcore number and then the offset becomes open below on the Offset/DVID. Use the + and - keys to key in the ofset. Make sure you put all power saving options back on...

AC/DC Load Line: Auto
CPU LLC: High or Turbo (high has a bit of vdroop, turbo is flat)
Voltage: Normal
Offset/DVID: +0.02 (will give you ~1.3v @ 5GHz)
(VR Control) IA AC: 1 / DC: 1

Lots of trial and error but start at 4.9GHz, get that stable and then move to 5GHz. You should be able to get a lower vcore at around 1.325 to 1.35v for a stable 5GHz overclock...fingers crossed.

i tried 4.9. vcore normal, 0.020dvid and i think so far stable.

cpuz voltage jumps 1.248-1.260v

max temp is 68c

thank you for your help! i will try 5ghz later today, and tomorrow i post an answer.

That sounds about right....CPU vcore will always jump when using an ofset with occasional spikes but it should settle and 1.248 to 1.260v is very good. You have some room to play with. Hopefully 5GHz will also be stable!!!! best of luck.

sorry im a bit late to post news. si i got stable 4.9
with 0.02offset

but how do i get 5ghz? i change core ratio. but how do i change the voltage with offset? just set like idk 0.04? becuase not stable with 0.02.

i went up to +0,060
it gave me 1,370v but cant seem to be stable, aida seemed stable a bit lower, like +0.040. but i tried occt and failed. i think my chip is simply not good. 4,9 is stable at 1,28v though. thank you for your time and effort Max!
