I have Xfinity gig which is 1gb down and 40mbps up. I Had someone come out and install 3 runs for us today. So that we can get off the wifi which lately seems to be saturated. The longest one is maybe 60ft long. When testing this one run, The connection is running around 90 down and 40 up. Where every other wired connection is getting 900+mbps down and 40+mbps up.
This run comes to the entertainment center. TV, receiver, powered sub and such. Everything seems to be wired correctly for what I can tell and I am looking for suggestions to try other than just telling the guy to come back and rerun the cable. Is it possible to have a bad cable when all three runs are from the same spool?
Would the cable still work if the wires were mixed up when he crimped on the jack? I just do not know a lot about cabling.

Solution
You can visually see sometimes if one wire didn't push all the way into the RJ45 plug. I doubt it's the cable. It's much more likely the connections. Which any decent installer should be testing.

All it takes is ONE wire to be missing and you will drop to 100Mbit. You should get the installer back to show you a wire map print out. If you are using jumper cables anywhere, they could be the problem also. Make sure you validate ALL your jumper cables before calling out the installer.

No jumpers or anything in between. Straight wired from the router. I guess I will have to call him back as I have no crimping tool or rj45 plugs to double check the ends.

After i posted this. I inspected the RJ45 plug and noticed on one end the dummy had the blue/white and the green/white swapped once that was fixed all was good.

This is the difference between a actual network cable installer and guys who think they can install cables. A good installer will hook a test meter to every connection that in addition to showing it is cabled correctly will test that the cable actually meets the eia/tia certification standards. They can provide a report for every cable run, this is normally a required thing when you have cable installed in a business. Unfortunately the test meters that do this are very pricey so guys who do not do network cables as a business tend to not have them.
