I have a small form factor Actioneon Kiosk computer. I think it's probably an older version of either this Wiisper 10QS or 10HS. Long story, but essentially, I asked a friend of my son's to build me a computer for my business with a miniumum 3.2gHz processor speed which is the miniumum requirement for the make software I use in my business. Long story short... Before he finished installing it, he passed away from an aneurysm. When I got a chance to finish the setup, I found that it had a Celeron chip with a 2.8 gHz processor. I need to upgrade the chip. From what I can tell from the website, it will take a 1151 socket chip and has a list of chips that the company uses. My question is... If I take a chip from that list, can I just replace the Celeron chip without doing anything else, or do I need to have someone with more experience and time to take care of this task?

Thanks,
Alisa

If you are comfortable working with it, then it should be very simple to swap the CPU. You will need 70 % isopropyl alcohol or higher (higher dries faster) to clean the thermal paste out off the heatsink. You will need thermal paste.
The most important thing: You need to make sure which CPUs are compatible with you motherboard. The list online is for the latest models.
You could open the case and check motherboard model or you could install an app like Speccy, which will provide that info.

I downloaded Speccy. I'm assuming all I need to look at are CPU and Motherboard. I'm pretty software savvy, but not so much on hardware, but I think the important info hasn't changed much from what's on the website. This computer is only about a year old. Take a look at this and let me know if I need to look for anything other than a 1151 socket and a processor that's on the list.

Here's what I found:

Here are the current supported chips and internal graphics options:
Core i7-6700, Quad-Core @ 3.4GHz, HD Graphics 530
Core i5-6600, Quad-Core @ 3.3GHz, HD Graphics 530
Core i5-6500, Quad-Core @ 3.2GHz, HD Graphics 530
Core i5-6400, Quad-Core @ 2.7GHz, HD Graphics 530
Core i3-6320, Dual-Core @ 3.9GHz, HD Graphics 530
Core i3-6100, Dual-Core @ 3.7GHz, HD Graphics 530
Pentium G4520, Dual-Core @ 3.6GHz, HD Graphics 530
Pentium G4400, Dual-Core @ 3.3GHz, HD Graphics 510
Celeron G3900, Dual-Core @ 2.8GHz, HD Graphics 510

I've found a few of these at Amazon and New Egg

The motherboard in your system has Socket LGA 1150
That list is for a newer socket (LGA 1151) and is not compatible with your system.
I don't know the wattage of your power supply, so you should go with a CPU that uses the same or less power as the current Intel Celeron G1820 (65W)

Intel Pentium G3430 3.3GHz 53W LGA 1150
Intel Pentium G3470 3.6GHz 53W LGA 1150
Intel Core i3 4130 3.4GHz 54W LGA 1150
Intel Core i3 4340 3.6GHz 54W LGA 1150
Intel Core i3 4370 3.8GHz 54W LGA 1150
Intel Core i5 4590S 3.2GHz 65W LGA 1150
Intel Core i7 4790S 3.2GHz 65W LGA 1150

There are other CPUs available but they draw 84W of power.

That CPU is compatible with the motherboard but it requires 84 Watts. I don't know if your power supply (power brick) (included with your computer) can deliver enough power for the added wattage.
Like I previously said, your current Intel Celeron G1820 uses only 65 Watt.
I don't see any specifications on Actineon website, perhaps you want to ask them if the power brick included with your system can handle a 84 watt CPU.

I emailed Actineon this morning. This is the response:

Thank you for contacting us. We understand how important the machine is in driving your commercial embroidery machine. Unfortunately, the machine you purchased was not designed or sold for home use. It was designed to drive a specific configuration for a digital sign or kiosk.

In addition to the issues you’re experiencing with the CPU and/or other hardware, you may also be having driver/software issues since your commercial machine may not like the POSReady7 Windows software installed. It is also configured specifically for the original customer’s IT environment.

Our recommendation is you purchase a machine with hardware/software that is compatible with your embroidery equipment. The Actineon machine you purchased was just not built for that purpose. It is unfortunate it was represented to you as such.

All the best,
Actineon Customer Service

Oh well. I have this older Dell Precision laptop in my desk. I'm going to have to find time to re-install everything. Luckily, I keep all my file on a thumb drive so I can easily run them back and forth between studio and home.

I am a little curious, what did you asked to get that response?
Just asking if the brick included with your system can handle a 84 watt CPU, should have yield a different response.
I have built HTPCs for home using the same motherboard and it works pretty much as any other system. The motherboard manufacturer, ASRock sells them with a different case of course.

Here's what I sent:

PLEASE RESPOND!!!!

I bought an Actineon computer from a friend of my son's. Long story, short is that I told him I needed a computer with a minimum 3.2ghz processor. Before I realized that this computer has a slower Celeron chip, this healthy 26 year old had an aneurysm and died in his sleep.

I have GOT to put a new cpu chip in, but cannot figure out what chip to buy. I cannot find any of the chips on the list on your website with a 1150 socket so don't know what else would work in it.

I'm attaching screenshots of my computer's cpu & motherboard specs and pictures of the sticker on the bottom, the front, and the back. I cannot find this exact configuration on your website.

I need to know if you have any chips in stock that would work and if not, what wattage chip will work in this computer.

My commercial embroidery software crashes constantly. PLEASE RESPOND!!
----------------------------------------------
I also sent screen shots of the information I posted above.
I didn't think about just asking the simple question of what wattage chip would work.
Any chance I could take it to an IT person to get in reconfigured and a new chip installed?
----------------------------------------------
Yesterday, my son suggested that his friend might have just used the box and put in a different motherboard, etc. I don't know how to tell if that's the case or not.

Thanks,
Alisa

You just needed to ask them 'Does the power brick included with your system could handle a 84 watt CPU"?. That's is all.
Of course they won't help you, they want to sell you another system.

If you only need a 3.2GHz or higher CPU, then replace it with another CPU that uses 65W or less power and could run at the required speed.
I gave you a list of CPUs that meets the requirement for the software and those CPUs have been tested by the motherboard manufacturer (ASRock) of your system. You could visit the website and check.
These are two of them:
Intel Pentium G3470 3.6GHz 53W LGA 1150
Intel Core i3 4340 3.6GHz 54W LGA 1150

Your embroidery software might not run properly not only because of the speed of the processor. Celeron CPUs are low end CPUs suitable for general use like word processing, email, web browsing and might not be able to handle the task of commercial software.

If you post a picture of the inside of the PC case, I will give steps how to do it yourself.
