Hello, Let me explain my situation first.

I recently upgraded to EVGA GTX 1080. I found that the FPS drops were far more common than my older 970 card. My 970 will have consistent frames 100-144 so cant complain,. The 1080 was dropping to 50s and 70s. it was all over the place. I had no idea why. Sent it back for refund.

So... I thought.. my old card has nothing wrong with it so i just placed it back in.
I did remember to uninstall the 1080 drivers and re-installed all the 970 drivers. So you would have thought it would work fine. also something i querried online, i remember when i took out my 970 i only had a 6 pin in the pci? When i re-installed i placed in both the 6 pin and 8 pin. Both are 6 pin+2's. I ssume using both is needed?

----

So the issue is with certain games, I can play pubg and i dont seem to get this issue for some hours. But if i play fortnite i get it about 10 minutes into playing.

ISSUE: Im playing and then the screens just go black with no input. I can still hear sound and i believe i can still click with the mouse but cant use keyboard inputs. The only way to fix is to re-boot the machine.

The GPU Temp sits around 69c when playing and 99-100% gpu use. I checked all the fans inside and they are all working.

Before I decided to upgrade and then revert back my machine had 0 issues and i was playing fortnite fine. So something happened when I placed in the 1080 and then put back the 970. Some driver still active?

Please find below my spec and also the Event viewer errors.
There is a lot of errors on my event viewer with DistributedCOM but no idea what that is. Please see below.

Doubt switching your GFX card was the issue, perhaps just time for the power supply to go.
My main system had a GTX 660, and I was getting a lot of instant power offs under heavy load. Thinking the GTX 660 was bad, I swapped for a different card I had (GTX 750) and the problem went away.
I tested the 660 in a new build and no issues under the same load, so I know my power supply is failing to provide the GFX card with full power.

Okay, so i did the driver uninstall, turned out the 1080 still had a driver on my machine. I removed it re-installed the 970 drivers. was playing for 2hours thinking awesome its stopped! But no.. same issue screens went black no sound this time.

It sais kernel power so im guessing it lost power. PSU? or can the graphics card overheating or something cause loss of power. I am really confused right now.
