I have a HP A6230n Pavillion
It has onboard audio that up till then worked perfectly.

Last week I suddenly lost sound. Here's what I've tried....

1). Re flashed BIOS
2). Removed ALL audio drivers
3). Reinstalled all audio drivers
4). Installed a new PCI sound card
5). Disabled the Onboard sound
6). Downloaded and installed new drivers for the new PCI sound card
7). tried a different set of speakers
8). Tried headphones

No matter what I cannot get sound. It doesn't make sense.
The drivers all appear to be installed correctly.
When I try to play sounds, the visual sound level bar moves normally as expected.
Everything looks normal....except there is no sound from any jack.

I'm at a loss. If this is a mainboard issue, how could it have have affected a separate PCI sound card?

Thanks guys.

Yes sir.
Checked that early on.
Oddly, at first it would only say "Headphones".
But after reinstalling the drivers, the speakers came back....but still no sound

I'm at the conclusion there is some kind of hardware failure on the mainboard that only affects the audio whether the OnBoard OR any sound card installed.

I need to run the Windows System FIle Checker (SFC)

Alternatively, I may install a blank hard drive, Install Ubuntu and see if the sound works with a totally different OS

Welp, there apparently is no help available here. But for the sake of someone later.....

I tried a CMOS jumper reset.

Didn't help.

Removed the harddrive and installed a new hard drive and installed Windows 10.
SAME problem with an entirely different hard drive and fresh OS.

I can only assume it's some kind of a severe hardware or chip failure on the mainboard.
I think the CMOS reset and different OS on a new hard drive rules out the OS.

Oddly, every VISUAL CUE says the sound is working.
It says it's installed and working properly and when I play music it shows graphical visualizations as if music is playing, but after trying every jack on the computer, plus different speakers and headphones, I can find no other explanation than a chip or hardware failure.
