I noticed my GPU (MSI GTX 1080 Aero 8GB OC) temperature in every game I run on the highest settings were consistently 88-89 degrees Celsius. The fans are automatically reaching 95% to try to cool it off. I feel as if this is a bit odd because I don't think that graphics cards should be getting that hot. I would like to note that I have been noticing this ever since I received my computer 5 months ago. Even when I play on the lowest settings, the card temperature gets to around 85 degrees Celsius. So the question is, is it normal for my GPU to get that hot?

Solution
I think that you have too many fans exhausting at the top, you've got 4 in total, and only 2 feeding it, that will pull air straight past the GPU leaving it with little fresh air to work with. Either turn down the top fans so that they are barely running, or disconnect 2 of them, leaving one at the top, and the rad fan.

So fans are probably running at full speed unless they are only using the 5V lines. I see no reason why it would be like this, you should have enough fresh air coming in, you shouldn't be diverting it all to the top of the case, at 90%+ fan speed it should be better than that.

One last check, all of the fans on the gpu are spinning? You'll have to physically look at them to be sure.

The only concern is that your ambient might be really really high, 35c+ might create that kind of problem.

If you have a normalish ambient, then talk to the people you brought it from.

I just tried lowering the gpu temp on msi afterburner and it doesn't go higher than 82 degrees celsius, but it is lowering my clock speed. Anything about that?
