Overclocking 8700k on an airbased cooling system

Hi guys
Im planning in overclocking a 8700k on the 'Thermolab trinity' airbased cooler

I honestly dont know what they say about it around here but its one of the better 'bang for the buck' airbased coolers from where i come from (South Korea)

Im planning to delid it and apply the 'Liquid Pro' thermal grease (which ive heard is the best for such purposes) and overclock it to something like 5.0

Would i need a better (expensive) cooler like the noctua d15 or the macho gt? cuz im already kinda stripped:)

My rig is usually for video editing with Adobe AE and PR, and sometimes Photoshop so i need the cpu to be reliable

I'll be using the Asrock Extreme 4 Z370 motherboard and have 3 120mm fans on the front of my case

Any answers would be highly appreciated
Thanks in advance:)

P.S. If i cant get it to 5.0, what would be the possible maximum?

I think what Mike is saying is, if you get a good cpu, you will be able to oc to 5.0 without having to delid it. The TJmax for that cpu is 100c. Operating anywhere up to 75c under normal use is fine. Though most people like to keep theirs under 70. either way if you plan on taking it to 5.0ghz you will need a real beefy air cooler like the D15, GamerStorm ASSASSIN II, or CRYORIG R1 Ultimate Dual Tower. I think the R1 is probably the best of the 3.

Personally I like aio, but since your going to delid I guess air will be fine for that oc. Oh ya forgot to mention the DARK ROCK PRO 3 that also is very good.

If you have to delid processor, than you also need best cooling available. Just how much are you hoping to OC it ?

Im expecting something on the range of 49~50
But it depends on the temperature ill get in the process

can you explain why i need the best cooling for a delidded processor?
im kind of a newbie in overclocking
