my pc on the fritz so its either buy a motherboard and hard drive for my pc or a Gpu for my laptop as the laptop is very slow
Any suggestions?
On a budget of about $300

"Cheap but great external GPU" does not exist, especially today.

You have an extremely weak laptop that would not benefit much from an external GPU, especially a cheap one.

Additionally it would cost more than your laptop once you factor in the GPU, adapter, and PSU. You will also have to buy a new WiFi dongle as you would lose the internal WiFi.

If you need a portable system, save up and get a gaming laptop. Here is one for $650 - https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834854588

Or build a desktop.

Yeah thats the better option, that laptop is never going to game well, even with a 1080.

What components are working on your desktop and what needs replacing? full specs if possible please?

unn its wont CMOS or M-Flas (mb B250 pc mare Msi)( and HDD is about 8 yrs old. Cant get into it forgot to reconnect to home network but I built it so heres list of parts used. All bought new or refurbed in oct....

MSI B250 Pc mate mb
MSI 710 GPU
Intel I5 1151 CPU
EVGA 550 power
x-cruise pink case with 6 fan slots and 1x4gb Corsair veengence and ! x 4gb umm biostar (I think its a non name brand) DDR4
Logitech G410, and G600 (K.B. & Mouse buying Quartz Razer set too though it really doesnt make diff I think on here for this)
When I try to Jump my M.b. it wont turn on or when it does I get a message (cant remeber exact wording) but essentially saying path to any saved files, games ect are missing....I have tried several things like using Command Prompt in Admin to fix (found solutions at Microsoft forums) none worked....I knewv my HDD was going tyo kick bucket soon but thought I woulda had longer now wont come on at all. I really should have waited till I could afford the motherboard I want...I bought the MSI b250 but I want a Gigabyte Z370 (with RGB..using chroma and hue to make lighted gaming living room for hubby n I) but will likely have to settle for the Z270 as the Z370 takes 8th gen n mine is only 7th gen Intel...want gigabyte but might need to use asus as I cant afford a CPU, M.B and a HDD...So in other words whats my best bet? ....I was going to do the Intel I5 1151 with Asus Z270, and a seagate Baracudda....But would love input or any advice
