Bios Won't Update

Okay so I have been having issues with trying get my memory to run at a frequency of at least 1886 as that is what the board will take. though still unsure. anyways every time I try to tweak the memory in anyway the post fails and I get a red led with 1 long beep and 2 short beeps. so checked for a Bios update. There is an update from 0901 to 1001 from the Asus site. though when I got the .Cap file and tried to update the bios I get a security violation. (there is no locks on my mobo either.)

Also having a graphics issue too where every time I turn the pc on I have to set up eyefinity then remove eyefinity to get my second monitor to work and not be rainbow static. not a major issue but troublesome.

All drivers are up to date and I have even reinstalled them all at least once with a complete wipe of any residual file and registry items

Windows OS: Windows 10 pro
MOBO: 970 Pro Gaming/Aura
BIOS:0901
CPU: AMD FX-8350
Memory: G.Skill F3-2400C10D-16GTX 8gb (2x)
PSU: 3V3A 600W
GPU: XFX Radeon RX 470

Solution
Your eyefinity issue might be related to Windows 10 gamebar features.

Since Win10 CU, gamebar was introduced and has caused a lot of issues. One of it's features is called fullscreen optimisation. Turning off gamebar disables fullscreen opt.

Try just disabling gamebar first.

If you uninstall gamebar it needs to be disabled first through the app otherwise theres a chance it can still be a problem.

I don't think it will work at 1866mhz. According to the QVL for that board http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/SocketAM3+/970_PRO_GAMING_AURA/970_memory_QVL.pdf the only tested functional 1866mhz ram on that system was Corsair at CL9. According to Gskill https://www.gskill.com/en/product/f3-2400c10d-16gtx it should run at 1866mhz CL8. Now with CL9 being slower than CL8 you would think it could work, but its possible the timings needed to achieve either one aren't compatible with the board. The FX series was really made for 1600mhz ram, 1866 support has always been touchy, I don't think this is going to work.

So why is it running at a base speed of 1333?

Yeee I have wiped and reinstalled 3 times now, making one final attempt to wipe and reinstall then just leaving it

All DDR3 is native at 1333 mhz. You can try 1600mhz in the BIOS settings that will probably work. But if you don't configure the speed manually or using XMP it will always run at 1333.

Its really the only thing that makes sense, unless you have a corrupt Windows install. Or try a different monitor port?

No other port to use just finished the wipe and install when first finish the install works great but after a restart on screen is rainbow stating. so have to create an eyefinity then turn eyefinity off to make them both work again

Thats really bizarre. I honestly am not sure what else you could do. I would otherwise think the GPU is defective somehow.

Glad that worked out, figured thats the best you would get. Honestly you aren't losing any noticeable performance anyway.

The RX470 was built for Win 10 so it shouldn't be that. Could be an issue with your Win 10 install though, may need to wipe and reinstall.

Your welcome.

Its a shame because game bar has a lot of potential. Hope the idea behind optimising OS for pure gaming improves but so far its been like almost 2 years and its still flawed. Fullscreen optimisation is a blend between full and bordless window and compatibility with it for whatever reason isn't great. Slight stutter in games ya just cant figure out is another symptom.

Microsoft and partners need to pull their thumb out of thier, you get the idea :)
