So i recently got a new Samsung 960 evo so i shut off my computer and put it right in the m.2 slot.

as i booted it up it show me the (operating system not found) message and i thought "that was strange" so i pulled it out and rebooted. to my surprise, the message did not change. it still wouldnt detect my old ssd that has windows on it.

afterwards i decided to install windows on the 960 evo instead and i finally got the thing to boot. the problem now is that the only other drive showing up is my old ssd. i had another 1 tb hard drive as well as a 500 hard drive. i checked disk manager to see if the drives were there by they werent. they werent even listed as unallocated. now here i am pulling my hair out trying to figure out what is going on.

here are my specs

cpu: i7 7600k
gpu: evga gtx1080
mobo: gigabyte z270 aorus gaming k7
ssd: kingston 120gb ssd
ssd2: samsung 960 evo
ram: corsair vengeance 16gb

Hello and welcome to Tom's!

Which of the two M.2 slots do you have the 960 evo in? Use the M2P_32G, and it should fix the problem. Or switch your other drives out of the Sata3 4, Sata3 5 connectors.

The pic below is clipped from your user manual. It's looking like, even though it's a PCIe SSD, it will still disable some SATA ports if it's in the wrong slot. Never seen that before.

It does note that if you use the M2P_32G it'll take bandwidth from your bottom PCIe slot though. So if that's an issue, use the M2M_32G but avoid the #4 and #5 Sata ports.
