Is the GTX 980 still good for gaming in 2018??

Can it run games like Assassin's Creed: Origins, Battlefield 1, Middle-Earth: Shadow of War and the upcoming Far Cry 5? Also can it run Kingdom: Come Deliverance? I want to play games on High-Ultra settings at 1080p. Going to pair it with an i5 LGA 1150 CPU probably the i5 4590 or the i7 4770k if I can find one at a good price. I want to get a GTX 1060 but they are so expensive nowadays and I have seen some GTX 980's close to the 260 pound price mark which I might consider.

Solution
980 is still enough for serious gamer.
I would say its a bit better than 1060, but that depends on what you do.
Even 680 still can play AAA around mid/low (similar to 1050 ti)
highest tier cards don't stop being good overnight.

Thanks guys! I will look at my budget but I found some cheap GTX 1060 3gb. Which is better the 3gb GTX 1060 or a 4gb GTX 980? Would it be worth it to do 980's in SLI or should I save up for a GTX 980Ti? A GTX 1070 is way too expensive at the moment.

Always get a single better card instead of doing a multi gpu config due to the lack of support and inconsistancy with it.

A 980 performs a bit better than a 1060 6gb. The 3gb 1060 is about 10% slower than the 6gb version.
Just make sure to not spend more or almost the same on the 980 as the price of a 1060. Keep in mind that it is used and is older therefor no guarantee how long it will last.

Don't SLI anything, mostly not worth it and very few games gain from it. 1060 3GB should be fine for quite some time, I would go for it as its lower power for same performance.
