Hi, I'm looking to buy GPU for this old system

cpu: Intel core 2 quad q9550 @2.83 GHz , Yorkfield, 12M cache
psu : Corsair cx550
mobo : gigabyte G41MT -s2pt ,f2 version ( PCIe 2.0), 775 socket
Ram: 8gb ddr3
monitor: Dell 1080p (60 htz)

expected to play games at 1080p at 60fps, budget not an issue. also for the future.
I will update the whole built next year, but right now I need GPU for my requirement or shall I buy ps4 slim ??

advise me in both ways,
GPU and ps4 slim.

Thanks

it'll work fine on the mobo.

the term "bottleneck" only means that the cpu will keep the 1070 from fully being used. it does not mean that the cpu will keep the game from even playing. unless the game requires a stronger cpu and then that is not the gpu's fault. pcie 2.0 will be fineas well. the gpu won't fully use that link anyway so not being 3.0 is not really a big deal either.

since you're going to upgrade the rest next year anyway, buying anything too cheap would only be wasted money. something like a 1050ti would likely not accomplish your goals next year and would need to be replaced anyway. heck it won't even keep the newest AAA games at 60 fps right now even with a new cpu!!!

But what if I want to add a GPU to that config for 1080p 40-50fps, is that possible without upgrading.
how about gtx 1050ti?

What kind of "update the whole build next year" is that? Are you going to buy high-end pc parts? or maybe something more of a mid-range? Are you also planning on getting a new monitor with more pixels or staying with 1080p@60Hz?

If so, you should choose the graphics card depending on the future system.

Answering these questions would help a lot, but for now i would recommend a GTX1070 for future-proofness. Maybe something better (like a GTX1080) if you're planning on moving to bigger displays like 1440p or 2160p. (Of course these cards will be 100% bottlenecked by a CPU, but you will be getting maximum available performance out of your current PC configuration and when the next year comes with the PC platform update, you will have 1 less part to take care off - high-end GPU will be already bought)

If you want an idea of how your old CPU will perform in modern games, look at the results for the OC'd Q6600 in this article. https://www.techspot.com/article/1313-intel-q6600-ten-years-later/

GPU-wise, a GTX 1060 or RX 580 are the optimal 1080p/60fps/high settings cards. Unfortunately they are quite overpriced at the moment due to mining demand.
