I have following restart problem with my ASUS U56E laptop computer. Whenever I start the PC from cold it starts up fine and boot perfectly. Whenever I do a reboot due to windows update or any other reason, the PC fails to restart and the indicators (power, wifi, num lock, and cap) cycle through in about every 4.5 seconds. nothing displayed on the screen. I relocated the boot drive to the optical drive port and did not solve the problem. In order to restart the PC again, I have to hold down the power button for minimum about 15 seconds until the power indicator remain on, then I press the power button one more time. The PC will start normally without problem. The other option is remove the battery and charger if connected, then reconnect the battery/charger and press the power button.

update: The symptom not only apply while performing windows update, it happens in all events when performing a restart procedure. The problem happens before the windows begins to boot and load. I have been selecting shut down over restart whenever I can control it or I remember. In some events, such as windows updates or some program installation, the process would perform the restart automatically. it can go into BIOS setting by holding down the delete key when performed from the cold start. It can't go into BIOS setting when performed during the restart process. This problem even happen when restart from exiting the BIOS setting.

Any suggestion on what caused this problem?

Solution
The problem is with Windows Update installation file. Next time let the Windows update file download & install. When it asks for restart set it for afterwards and instead of selecting restart simply shutdown the PC(if you get the option to shutdown with update select it if you don't get then just shut down). That should most likely solve the problem.
