in the process on figuring out how to update bios, will i need to update the bios again once i iinstall a new gpu?

While I can't say for sure, it's pretty doubtful you would need to do that. A newer, updated BIOS should take care of it. The only reason I had to on my MSI 990FX was due to the big generational gap between the cards and the fact that the BIOS I was running was older and I hadn't checked for a newer one.

so i updated the bios and i got a blue screen and now its rebooted again and says attempting repairs

It should be fine. Your Windows needs to update and I'm fairly sure mine did with the BIOS update and vid card swap.
