Hi.

I currently use a ASRock Z170A-X1 mobo and have G.Skill Aegis 16gb (2x8gb) ddr4 2800mhz ram installed. So if I want 16gb more, do I have to get the exact same memory and exact same 2800mhz? I believe I still have 2 RAM slots open and only 2 are uses at the moment.

Solution
Mixing RAM vendors and speeds is always a sketchy situation as it might work... but also might not. I would look to buy another set of what you have if you want to assure yourself of the best possibility for functionality. Also, is it truly necessary to get another 16GB for what you're doing or is it more about having all four DIMMs filled? Be honest.

It's for a game called Star Citizen. I was told by many to upgrade to at least 32.

I know the game though it's not up my alley. I would think that there is more to be considered with regard to your GPU than your RAM. What are you using? What's your system specs?

with the HDD, it never loads. I tested it on my boot ssd drive and it loaded after 3-4 minutes.

For RAM, I was told since the game is 64 bit universe, it eats a lot of RAM, some people reporting the game taking up 16-17gbs of RAM. Some people said with 32gb, they have increases fps.

Holy hell. That's utterly ridiculous and about as unoptimized as a game can get in my opinion. Well, if that's the case, you'd better look for some more of that RAM you have if that's going to be your game of choice. Either that or you ditch what you have for a matched set of four sticks.

Good luck.

I am currently using G.Skill Aegis 16gb (2x8gb) DDR4 2800Mhz, but I can't find this anywhere online to buy. It's as if they have stopped production of it. Buying 32gb 4 sticks would be so much more expensive than me buying 2x 8gb sticks.
