Stuttering when V-Sync is off

Okay so after a while of stuttering I changed a few settings in the nvidia control panel (including v-sync) and my game is now capped at 60fps with no stuttering. Although this fixed the issue i'm annoyed as to I have a GTX 1080 and it is not reaching its full fps, should I send it back to cyberpower to fix this or just deal with 60fps? I feel like it's a waste of a 1080 and potential??

Solution
Well if you have a 60hz monitor then running a game at over 60fps wont do anything for you besides introducing screen tearing, a 60hz monitor cant display more than 60fps.

However it shouldn't really stutter necessarily with vsync off, you should just get screen tearing.
