Recording the same PC with an ElgatoHD60s, or recording a gaming PC through a crappy laptop?

So I have an okay computer, and I want to record games. But usually the frames drop a lot when I record with Bandicam, or OBS. I'm looking into buying an ElgatoHD60s for PC recordings. But I've read that playing games while recording with an Elgato will still drop the frames a lot. So, would you recommend getting the Elgato and recording the PC with the same PC, or should (could) I use a really crappy laptop to record my gaming PC?

[or should I look into buying an ElgatoHD60 Pro?]

Thanks

Using a capture card on the same PC you're playing games on is pointless and would just be a waste of money. If you're going to use a capture card effectively you would need a second PC that would use the card to capture the footage from the gaming computer. That being said, the PC that is doing the capturing would still need a relatively decent CPU in order to record smoothly. Check your OBS settings and see how high of a quality you're recording in. While the higher the quality you can record in will look better, it also puts significantly more strain on the CPU. The best thing you should do here if you want to record is either lower the quality in OBS or put money towards upgrading your current PC if you can rather than spending it...
