Corsair TX550M PSU (overkill?) vs SeaSonic FOCUS 450W Gold

Hi,
I'm building a new desktop after 10 years, new setup will be:

Intel i5 8400 CPU
Gigabyte Z370 HD3p
Ballistic 8GB ram (waiting for price drop to pick up more)
Samsung SSD
WD HHD
No GPU yet, but will get one in the future, not really urgent at the moment.

According to https://outervision.com, even with the future GPU I'll be using no more than 355W,
so I don't really need more than 450W,
however,
the price for the Corsair TX550M is currently the same as the
SeaSonic FOCUS 450W 80+ Gold SSR-450FM.

Not sure which would be better for my particular setup.
Reviews on both are rather similar, but is it overkill to get the 550W?
Is there a tie breaker here?

I lean towards SeaSonic in general (alongside SuperFlower), because they don't have "bad" units at all (at least under their own name).... and they're the OEM, they actually make the PSU platform.

Corsair is a "brand" and have good/bad/indifferent products in their stack, from various OEMs and varying platforms.
For example:
SeaSonic made Corsair's AX/AXi units (great units!)
CWT made their RMi (great!), RM-Gold (decent) and older CX/CX-M units (pretty poor)

IIRC, the TX550M is made by GreatWall.... The same OEM that made the pretty poor CS line from Corsair. Clearly they've gone with a completed new design for the TX550M, which is great..... just reputation is hard to lose.

Obviously, not a huge issue as you consider the PSUs...

A quality 450W unit is more than enough for most users with a single GPU setup.

You've got a 65W TDP CPU, probably 50W for the balance. You could drop a 250W TDP 1080TI in there and still be comfortable enough on a good 450W unit. If you were going that route, I'd maybe want some extra headroom with a 500-550W unit myself, but a SeaSonic 450W should be fine.

Personally, I'd opt for the SeaSonic. The TX550M is "good" quality, and does give you a bit more headroom for potential upgrades BUT, SeaSonic make some of the best PSUs out there.

Both units have a 7 year warranty too...... Corsair must be pretty confident in their newer TX units!

You're really not going to go wrong with either PSU. The TX would give you a little more headroom if you were looking to older, more power hungry GPUs, but if you're looking modern, the SeaSonic would be more than enough.

Is there a particular reason you like Seasonic better? I lean towards Corsair due to reviews that the Seasonic can be a little noisy. My only concern was that it's overkill and will not be efficient.

Obviously, not a huge issue as you consider the PSUs at hand: TXM, a great unit in it's own right.
Personally though, I just have more of a liking for SeaSonic, SuperFlower... and units made by them.

With this budget OP may end up with a R9 290... :sarcastic:

That's the only reason I'd suggest TX550M over the SSR-450FM. The SSR-450FM has tighter everything compared to TX550M anyways.
