Forgive me if this is considered a silly question, but for minix android boxes.. on amazon it says the os version is still 5.1.1. My question is, do minix offer support to upgrade to the latest android (7.1) version? I am considering buying one and just want to make sure it wont be out of date anytime soon in terms of android/installing latest kodi versions.

ANother way is to go to Minix home page, find out support page for the model in question, and see whether OS updates are offered.
