Hi everyone,

Before anything else I'd like to say I've read and perform all the steps in this post:
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems

I'm trying to build a home server to use both as my Pex Media Server and for redundant offsite backups for my da data I have at my studio.

I wanted to keep things cheap so I first thought about getting an old Dell Tower Server such as the T310. Instead I went the "build my own pc" route. This way I could have some control over the parts I wanted and maybe have some fun during the process. I was wrong.

I bought the following components:
Motherboard: ASUS P7H55-M
CPU: Intel Xeon x3430
Ram: 4 sticks of 2gb DDR3 1333mhz (not sure about the brand. It has a samsung sticker on it).
PSU: Corsair cx450M
Passive GPU
Cooler: 212Evo

I assembled all the parts with the motherboard on top of it's box and tried to boot the system for several hours and it was able to post only 3 (not consecutive) times.
Everytime I turned the system on the PSU and CPU fans started spinning but no Signal on the monitor, no POST beep and no lights on the keyboard.
I was not getting any beep codes no matter what I did. I installed working ram and GPU from my studio PC and nothing happened. I started to inspect the motherboard carefully since it could be the source of the problem and found a lot of bent pins on it's backside. Carefully, with a screwdriver I tried to fix them but there were a lot of them and one or two were broken.
I figured the motherboard must had gone bad so I tried to find another one on Ebay.
The same model was super expensive so I searched for alternatives. I found a server motherboard compatible with my CPU: Asus P7F-M motherboard.
I bought ECC Registered memory for this motherboard and double checked to see if the processor supported it.
I put all the parts together and still no Post. This time, however, when I tried to boot the system without the RAM installed I got a beep code. I Checked the manual and the beep code meant “No ram intalled”. I bought a brand new CMOS battery and went through all the steps in the article above the post. Nothing. I read somewhere that the processor might be dead and one way to check that (I don’t know if that’s true but I tried it anyway) was to turn the system on and put my finger on the processor and see if it heated up. I could tell that it was cold at first and when I booted the system it increased the temperature slightly but it was still colder than my finger. The fans kept on spinning until eternity and the temperature didn’t change nor anything happened that indicated the that the system POST.
I took my PSU to the store where I bought it for them to test it and they said it was working just fine. I found the same processor here in Portugal for 6€ and I bought it to see if that was the issue. I’ve installed the new CPU and nothing has changed.
Long story short I tried different Graphics cards, three different sets of RAM (one stick at a time and I tried switching slots) and two CPUs (x3430) and still no luck.

This afternoon it struck me that maybe it could be my BIOS version. I checked the ASUS website and I found that the support for the x3430 came with the first update (not the original version) of the bios. I’m not sure which version is on my motherboard since I cannot boot it into BIOS, or into anything really. I also don’t know which processor I could get so I could boot the system and update the BIOS and then install the x3430. Does any of you know? Could this be the issue?

Help.

Thank you.

Apart from the sticker with the Motherboard the only one I can find is on one of the PCI slots and it's last four digits are: D404.
I think I have to rule out the possibility of being a BIOS update issue. I contacted the person who sold me the board and he said that he was running a x3470 on it. In spite of both processors being from the same series I double checked Asus website and both work since version 0705.

Thank you!
