Hello guys,

I am building my very first PC today since the parts just came in from the mail. It consists of the following components below:

CPU - Intel Core i5-8600K Coffee Lake 6-Core 3.6 GHz (4.3 GHz Turbo)
Cooler - NZXT Kraken X62 (RL-KRX62-02) Liquid Cooling
Mobo - ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC)
RAM - G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 3200 F4-3200C16D-16GTZR
Storage1 - 1 x SAMSUNG 860 EVO Series M.2 2280 250GB SATA III 3D NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-N6E250BW
Storage2 - 1 x WD Blue 1TB Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD10EZEX - OEM
PSU - EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G3, 220-G3-0650-Y1, 80+ GOLD, 650W Fully Modular
Case - Phanteks Eclipse P400S

As you can see, I didn't include the GPU since the estimated ETA for it would be around the first week of April. To give you an idea, it would be an ASUS GTX 1080.

My concern is this,

I would really like to test out the parts right away so I could find out if there are any defects in case I would need to RMA it. However, would it be okay to overclock the CPU without a GPU?

Also, I learned this information unfortunately very late but the RAM sticks I just ordered isn't listed under the supported list from the Motherboards website. Do you think its going to be a problem?

Once again, this is going to be my first PC and I will be basing some overclocking steps from Youtube mostly on how to do so. If anyone could help me out here with that, I'd greatly appreciate it as well.

Don't worry about the OC.
Get the thing actually running. Get all your software installed. Make sure everything runs OK.

Then, in a couple of weeks...then think about some gentle OC. Step by step.
Don't rush into this.

(and install the OS with only the SSD connected)

fine to oc the CPU. you will need to run off the internal GPU built into the CPU.

the motherboard support list for the RAM is just a list of modules the maker had to test with, it is not a list of the only RAM that will work, just what they tested with. if the type, speed, and voltage requirements match the motherboard you should be fine.

Integrated graphics is fine for anything but fast action gaming.

To verify that your ram is supported, go to the g.skil web site and access their ram configurator.
Enter your motherboard and you will get a list of supported kits.
If your ram kit is on the list, you are good and will get support from g.skil.

You are almost certainly good.

Hi guys, thank you for all the help.

I have put up all the parts together and the PC is running fine now. So far, everything is working as it should be(I think?). Is there anything I should do to check or try?

Also, I was able to turn on the XMP profile for my RAM and is running on 3200Mhz. :D

Can't wait to get my GPU soon!
