Basically, I got my hands on a ps2 slim for $10, but need to buy the power supply. However, what I've noticed, is that the model scph-79001 (the one I have) uses an 8.5v 4.5a power supply (according to the info sticker on the bottom), and almost every other slim from 70000 to 90000 use an 8.5v 5.65a power supply.

The price difference for me is this: $25 for the correct power supply, and $10 for the one that nearly everyone else has. I don't want to spend $25 on something just to see if it works.

Is it safe to use the cheaper (and slightly higher amperage) power supply?

Solution
All good.

Voltage and connector need to match, but the amperage is what the power supply CAN supply.
So long as you meet the min requirements, doesn't matter if it can supply more.
