I have been in the process of researching for the best possible CPU just for gaming and maybe a few other minor tasks and Im sorry and still learning about PC components but a lot of people seem to mention this type of CPU as the best for gaming. I already got a laptop for work but I also got my own desktop computer with an FX 8370 that I would like to switch soon. anyways is this a good switch? is this a good CPU worth buying? I check the price and I can buy it so money its not an issue and I also know I need a new mother board and RAM cards but thats ok.

7700k is a very powerful CPU, however, its been superseded by its successor 8700k by a fair margin.

main difference between 7700k and 8700k besides the $100 price tag.
8700k is a 6 core, 12 threads cpu vs 7700k which is 4 core 8 thread.
8700k uses z370 motherboard vs 7700k uses z270 motherboard, CPU and motherboard are not interchangeable. Z270 motherboard has no more upgrade path.
8700k runs faster than 7700k in both core count and core speed.
8700k is a lot harder to cool specially if you are trying to OC on air cooler.

besides the motherboards, ram, ssd, graphics card choices are all compatible.
