HL-5370DW Printer Jams the first time I try to duplex print

Whenever I try to print double sided after the printer has been in standby for a while the first page will come out, then feed back in part way, and then I get an error message.

Once I open the back cover and then shut it, 90% of the time the job will start again and it will print without a problem. The other 10% of the time I have to do the same process again and again and eventually it will work.

There is nothing ever in the rollers, or any debris in the way. It's pretty clean in there.

I'm not afraid of taking it apart to find the culprit. I can't seem to find the answer in the 5370DW service manual.

Anyone have any ideas? Between this issue and the fact that it keeps losing connection with the network it might be time for an upgrade.

Thanks in advance.

Printer drivers up-to-date?

Might be some bug that has been fixed in a newer driver version.

Check the following link:

http://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadtop.aspx?c=us&lang=en&prod=hl5370dw_us

However if the printer is old and/or nearing production end-of-life Then Brother may not bother to issue any more driver updates.

Also try another known working Ethernet cable to connect printer to router (network).

May end some spurious error state that interrupts the initial set of printing instructions (i.e., double sided printing) and resets itself after the back cover has been opened and closed.

Did you ever find a cause of this problem? I've been running a 5370DW for years -- mostly double sided. Everything was great until a few weeks ago. It would print the first side of a page (the back side) and then before it would feed back in the "paper jam/back cover" lights would start flashing. I would open and close the cover and it would leave the bad page in the tray and start over and finish any number of pages. It will usually only do this the time in the morning.
It acts like there is a dirty/failing switch for the back cover but it is not obvious where it is. I guess I'm going to have to take it apart but this is not obvious either.
