I am wondering if it’s OK to run a pair of 8 ohm (custom made ARs) and a pair of 4 ohm speakers (Celestion 15XRs) on the A+B setting of a Yamaha A -S501, set at ‘low impedance’? The manual only states that speaker impedance should be 8 ohms or higher with the switch position at ‘low’, but does not clarify if that figure is for each set of speakers.

Any clarifications very welcome!

Since they don't give a power spec for that amp into 4 ohms I would guess that 6ohms is the minimum it will run safely.
The way around this is to get an speaker selector with impedance matching. That will maintain the impedance to safely run the speakers. You could also wire a 2 ohm non inductive 25-50 watt resistor in series with each Celestions to raise their impedance up to 8 ohms

Thanks a lot! I should have said that the B speaker channel can run on its own at 4 ohms or higher with the impedance control set to low. Does that mean anything in terms of what could then be feasible for A (6 ohms or higher), B (4 ohms or higher) and A + B (8 ohms or higher)?
