my setup ended like this....

#1 300mb restore partition (from windows 8)
#2 99mb UEFI partition (from windows 8)
#3 140GB windows 8.1 partition
#4 (300gb free space because I reduced the size of the windows partition afterwards)
#5 140GB Windows 7 partition
#6 (rest of the drive here is just a storage partion but is currently empty)

booting works but it kind of loads up windows 8.1 asks me if I want to boot another os pressing windows 7 makes the pc reboot then it loads 7 (considerably lengthening start up times)

I already got software that will allow me to move the windows 7 install further down the drive and expand #4 into #6 as a large storage drive at the end but wonder....

1)what is the best procedure to purge #3 windows 8.1 without damaging the win7 boot/install?? if I just delete the windows partition and run the windows 7 startup recovery will it fix the UEFI stuff?

2)300mb recovery partition is it any use for windows 7. honestly no idea what it does can't say I have used it ever, I always just booted from cd if I needing things fixing. can I also safely purge it?

thanks

Can you post screenshot from Disk Management?

Generally - if you wish to get rid of windows 8.1, you'd have to delete 140GB windows 8.1 partition (backup any data you wish to preserve before that).
And set windows 7 as default OS in Control Panel/System/Advanced System Settings/Advanced/Startup and Recovery/Settings/Default Operating System.
And you can delete recovery partition also, if necessary.
