Hey fellas,

So I'm fed up waiting for the Intel budget motherboards to come out and I've decided to go for a Z370, even though my CPU is the i5-8400. My other specs are :

- Case : Fractal Design Define C TG
- RAM : 2x16GB HyperX Fury DDR4@2666MHz
- GPU : MSI GTX 980 Gaming 4G (got it second hand, it will be replaced by the XX70 model of the upcoming Nvidia series, but I was tired of waiting for those too)
- SSD : Samsung 960 Evo 500GB
- HDD : 2 x Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB
- PSU : Seasonic Focus Plus SSR-550FX

So as the title suggests, I've narrowed my motherboard choice down to the Asrock Z370 Extreme 4, the Gigabyte Z370 Aorus Gaming 3 and the MSI Z370 SLI Plus. They're very similarly priced in my country. From what I've read online, they're pretty comparable, however several user reviews suggest that the Gigabyte UEFI is horrendous. This puts me a little off the Aorus Gaming 3, even though my last MB was a Gigabyte and it has lasted me 10 years without any problems.

The upcoming PC's biggest loads will be coming from video games and I don't plan to overclock anything. I am looking for a reliable and user-friendly motherboard that would just work with everything plugged in and no settings tweaking needed.

Is there a specific reason one should choose a specific brand of the aforementioned MoBos, or are the three picks pretty much the same and it all comes down to luck not to be stuck with a DOA board?

Many thanks in advance for all suggestions!

I dont buy or recomend MSI boards. I have used that Asrock board in 2 builds with no problems.
You might can get the Asrock Z370 Pro 4 a bit cheaper.

Even if you chose the cheapest Z370 board, you'd not be able to tell the difference in the board when compared to the highest end unit. Why? Because the processor you have will not be eligible for an overclock, the rams will run at DDR4-2666Mhz at max. Might I ask where you're located? I'm sure you could hold off a few more weeks until you get a solid response from your retailers...?

The boards in question in this thread are mean for overclocking, for stock clocks they should all be on the same playing field.

Hey there, Lutfij, thanks for your response.

If I'm understanding correctly, you're saying that basically they're all the same for my purposes and any differences would be purely aesthetic?

I'm located in Bulgaria and the thing is that the upcoming H series might not be much cheaper than these three Z motherboards and then there's also the question will there be anything to gain from a similarly priced H370 compared to the aforementioned three Z370 units? I did a brief check on Asrock, GB and MSI's websites and was left with the impression that the H series motherboards usually come in less variety of models. Am I missing something?

Thanks for your input Zerk2012!

The price of the three motherboards represents what I'm willing to pay for my system's MB, so I'm not actively searching for cheaper options.

Have you had bad experiences with MSI in the past? Aren't they quoted as providing quality MBs in general, like the other two posted above + ASUS?

I have had issues with MSI boards so havent used any since the Z97 boards. I also no longer buy or recomend Asus. They were at one time a great company but not antmore they just make a killing off their name. You can almost always buy a better board that uses higher quality parts in the same price range. Their gimmic software also does not impress me.

You will find a ton of Asus fan boys that probably have only a couple of builds under their belt ( buying just for the one time good name)
