Hi guys,

I have a phenom x3 720. I’ll try to upgrade my computer, and I have two options:
Fx 8350 for 150€ maintaining my ddr3 8gb or a i5 7400 for 300€ as I have to invest in ddr4 memory.
What do you think is the best option? Basically is the computer I use to manage and store my pictures. As usually I use my job laptop or the iPad.

Thanks

If you are just using the PC for managing and storing pictures, I think you'd see a much better performance increase from faster storage. If you just got a boot Solid State Drive and a good storage drive you'd see much better every day use, plus the Phenom II 720BE isn't a horrible CPU. My wife uses my old 720BE with an old Intel 160GB SSD, WD 320GB HD, 8 GB of RAM, and an R9 270x for all kinds of things and it is a snappy performer capable of moderate gaming. I keep pushing her to upgrade but she staunchly refuses and says her computer is just fine for everything she does.

Your usage scenario looks kind of sketchy. If you're looking to have your desktop as a means of a data/storage hub then you should be looking at a NAS of sorts or a build that is as low powered as possible. Mind sharing what you currently have?

If I were you and you also tax the system with professional photo editing duties, I'd choose the i5 since the AMD processor part you've listed comes to a dead halt.
