Do I have to use RAID to use two SSD’s at once?

Right now I have one 250GB SSD, and I’m probably going to buy a 500GB SSD sometime soon. If I do this though, do I have to use RAID in order for the computer to recognize the two SSD’s at once, so I can use both at once in Windows 10? I heard RAID isn’t good and I should stay away from it, but if that’s the only way I can use both of the SSD’s, are there any tips you recommend to prevent me from losing anything if something happens?

Solution
No you do not have to RAID them. RAID is used for different scenarios such as failures and backups. I have 2 120GB SSDs in my system you will just have to download and install your programs on your desired SSD. You could use one hard drive for your Windows OS and the second for your programs and files. Also, backing up your system to an external Hard Drive is always good practice if you don't want to RAID your drives.

You can mount the new one under a new drive letter.

Trying to make space on the other one can be complicated. Programs and windows are harder to move. You can clone your old drive to the new one and use the old one for storage.

You may be able to extend the directory in Windows Spaces, which keeps them both under C and just starts writing to the new one once the old one is full.
I don't think I would recommend this because filling a SSD 100% makes it fail faster.

You'd probably be best to clone the old SSD ( use Acronis, Macrium Reflect, or Samsung Migration software, etc. to create image with OS and applications to move over to the new one....); having another smaller one for rapid retrieval of whatever files you don't feel like waiting on, games, etc...

250 GB just doesn't go as far as it once did.... ; my 500 GB drive is about half full with only Windows , LibreOffice, BF1, and Quake Live installed...
