Ethernet cable speed

I’ve been having an issue with my internet. I just had my ISP (Xfinity) here trying to figure it out and they couldn’t do it themselves. So I pay for 1 GBPS download and 35 upload. Over WiFi, I can get speeds around about 500 Mbps which is fine, however, over a wired connection I can only manage about 95. We tested the end of the Ethernet cable itself and it’s sending out about 970 Mbps download, but when plugged into my pc it will not go above 100. This has been tested on multiple pc’s with the same issue. The cable is plugged directly into my MOBO which is an ASUS z97 pro gamer board. Any ideas? Thanks.

There are few possibilities that can cause this. As indicated above you first need to check your pc and make sure it is set to AUTO. You can check the drivers but the speed negotiation is more of a hardware chip function than a software driver thing. After that it almost has to be a bad cable. It could be a bad port in the pc but since that can't be fixed you have to hope it is the more common cable failure.

Ethernet cables can be really strange when they are bad. They can sometimes work on some machines but not others. Generally this is one of the pins making just partial contact that is good enough for some machines but not others. It is cheap to try a new cable.
What does the ASUS Z97-PRO GAMER's LAN port speed LED show as the current connection speed?
