FX8350 for a small business server

Hello all,
So, I just started a new job and it's a rather small company and they don't like to spend money on tech upgrades... With that being said, our current server is on a Dell T110 workstation... We have a Dell Precision T3500 that I just installed server 16 on and created a vm of our current server in. Obviously the T3500 isn't exactly the best choice for a server in 2018 imo. All our server is used for is file storage, some ftp stuff and that's really about it. I have an FX 8350 system I built a while back that's basically just collecting dust, all of the parts are basically brand new, it has a decent Gigabyte mobo, hyper 212 evo cpu cooler 32gb corsair vengeance ram @1666mhz and a 500w coolermaster 80+ bronze psu. Really all it will be used for is running 3-5 vms. Just trying to get an idea on whether this would be a better server setup than what we currently have. I know the 32gb of ram that's in it would be a massive upgrade from the 8gb that's in the current server. I don't want to hear x,y or z would be better for a server because I promise it's not in the budget. Like I said, very cheap company and I'm looking at this as a less expensive way for us to upgrade the server and make my life a bit easier by not having to wait 10-45 seconds for applications to open and then be super laggy.
TIA

Try this, load up your FX-8350 rig as a server and try it out. Whats the worst that could happen? The issue you might have is only having 32GB of memory, but you won't know until you test it out. Beauty (performance) is in the eye of the beholder (you).

32gb at 1666mhz sure beats the hell out of the 8 @ 1333mhz that's in our current server lol and I feel like an 8350 is quite the upgrade from a dual core Xeon.. We shall find out. I'm pretty sure the FX system is the way we're going to go.

It's a dual core Xeon. I think it's an e5640? And yeah, obviously it's not going to be fast. I'm well aware of how old the hardware is. Like I said in the original post, my company doesn't exactly think tech up grades are important. Pretty much everyone in my office that uses a desktop instead of a laptop has old Dell towers with Intel Duo core processors...

You obviously missed the part about the 3-5 virtual machines.. That's where this issues come into play, if this was strictly an FTP/file storage server I wouldn't care. But we have 4 different servers that we use for various different things and we're looking to virtualize them on the new server so we don't have to have a total of 5 machines running.
