I've recently installed a fresh version of Windows XP on my laptop. i installed all the drivers fine, except the display driver ( the graphics driver)

I have a 240M Graphics Card and i tried everything to install the driver. From the site and everything.

I only got a driver working for my display using a driver installing program (DriverMax) but the driver it installed doesn't allow me to access nVidia Control Panel

Because i have a screen tearing issue and i figured it might be fixed using the nVidia control panel.

I tried installing GeForce Experience it wont install.
I tired installing drivers directly from nvidia's site, it installs but like it's broken like nothing changes and after installing my laptop still uses the on-board graphics. so i have to return back to DriverMax to download the driver which registers correctly but i can't access the control panel

Note : in the device manager it says my driver is "(PE) Nvidia GT 240M Driver"

I Tried a clean installation using the option from the nvidia installer and a 3rd party program that does remove the display drivers completely still nothing works.

Solution
I would look for the driver from the manufacturer of your laptop's download/support page.
Also, make sure in the device manager that your NVidia GPU is enabled and the power options don't allow it to sleep to conserve power.
You can also try installing the driver in safe mode which may or may not help.
