Greetings, I am going to build my first pc and I have to admit that I'm kinda lost and scared of botching the job.

For example, do I need to do anything besides correctly connecting the processor and the fan to the motherboard? Would I need to update the bios or tweak something in the Bios menu?

Thanks

You need to make sure you have thermal paste between the CPU cooler and the CPU. That is pretty important. If you are using a stock cooler, it will come with pre-applied thermal paste.

As for the bios, you dont need to do anything to it immediately. Once you complete build, you will need to install the OS. You may have to go into the bios and update the boot priority to tell the system to boot from the CD or USB to install...

As for the bios, you dont need to do anything to it immediately. Once you complete build, you will need to install the OS. You may have to go into the bios and update the boot priority to tell the system to boot from the CD or USB to install the OS. After the OS is installed, you may have to update the boot priority in the bios again to the drive where the OS is located.

Apart form the boot priority, there is nothing you need to mess with in the bios to get the system up and running. You may want to overclock your RAM. It is very simple and usually just takes one click by enabling XMP. XMP is a pre-set overclock for your RAM. All bios are different, so the best way to do it is to google your board and activate XMP. Go to the videos and watch a youtube video and they will show you how.

For the record, Intel CPUs do not scale well with overclocked RAM. So high speed RAM on an Intel platform wont improve performance a whole lot.

Thanks for your answers.

I Have bought 2666mhz rams, I guess if I enable the XMP option in the Bios I will see an improvement over the stock 2133mhz?
