Hey guys

I built my first computer back in the winter of 2012/2013. The setup was medium rig that looked like this:
- Fractal Design Define R4
- Corsair TX 650M PSU
- ASUS Sabertooth Z77, Socket 1155 MOBO
- Intel i5 3570K CPU
- Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz 16GB
- EVGA GeForce GTX 670 2GB PhysX CUDA
- Noctua NH-D14 CPU Cooler
- Seagate Barracuda 7200 1TB HDD
- Intel SSD 120GB (can't remember what kind)

This rig served my use perfectly up until a couple of months ago. Everything runs pretty much pretty good, and the rig has lasted a good 5 years plus.

I've started playing PUBG and Fortnite recently, and startup times are beginning to rise with windows 10 (free version).

I want to build a new pc now, and I want to build a pc that can run games smoothly and run them smoothly for years to come. My last rig was pretty cheap, all things considering, and I have bigger budget this time around. I'm looking to spend the equivalent of 2000 dollars (give or take). I have monitors and I have keyboard and a mouse.

I want a build that looks good, and within a case that makes building fun (good cable management). I haven't been following this market segment that closely the last couple of years, so I'm open to any and all suggestions!

I don't know if the 1080 is worth it in this cryptocurrency nightmare market, but as I said, I want a rig that lasts long, looks good and runs all modern games at a high framerate.

My questions therefore are:
- What should I go for in the main components? (RAM, CPU, GPU, MOBO, PSU?)
- What can I use my old rig to do? Can i rebuild it to serve as something other than my main PC?

Solution
Rumors are that incrementally improved versions of ryzen and 8th gen intel are coming.
That usually implies a small price/performance bump. Think 5%.
Bigger bumps are probably a year or more off.

For graphics, there is a possibility of a larger top end jump from nvidia.
Rumors are that current GTX10xx cards are being sold off.
You will pay top dollar for that top end card.

Graphics is an easy upgrade if you should later need more. CPU, not so easy.

My take is that if you have the itch to upgrade , go ahead and scratch it.
If you wait for the next best thing, you will wait forever.
Main component suggestions for your budget:
I7-8700K

any Z370 motherboard.

2 x 8gb ddr4 3600 speed ram

GTX1080ti(rumor has it that the next gen nvidia cards are coming out in a couple of months)
If you buy now, buy a evga card to get their 90 day upgrade protection.

ssd of the m.2 pcie type, of whatever capacity you need. 500gb at least, perhaps 1tb.
Samsung 960 evo would be my pick.

Reuse your case, psu and cooler.

sell the motherboard, cpu and ram as a combo on ebay.
ditto the GTX670

Thanks for the advice!
This chipset, processor and RAM, do we know anything about "next generation" of these components? Anything in the works in the coming months that means that waiting a bit would be wise?
