Hi i just purchased the Gigabyte 1080 mini. It has an 8 pin power port and the power source(850W Coolmaster) has many 6 pin ports. I have a 6 pin PSU to 8pin CPU cable so no issue there, but is that single connection going to be enough to run the graphics card? The reason i ask is my old CPU had two 6 pin PSU cables running to it and after reading alot if i under stand a single 6 pin PSU cable only puts out 75W and the CPU requires 150W. Thanks

Solution
You've confused me a bit by saying CPU. You should not mix CPU and GPU power cables.

You will need an 8-pin PCIe power connector for the GTX 1080. Your power supply should have one available. What is the exact model of your power supply?

Yes you can use an adapter to create an 8 pin connector. Just make sure it's the right kind. 8 pin pci-ex connectors provide much more power than 6 pin, so it's not just an issue of changing the 6 pin end into an 8 pin end.

On your other question, different generations of videocards have different power requirements. So it's not unusual that a newer, more efficient card does not need as many connectors as an older less efficient card.
