hello
i am indecisive need help
i currently have an i5 7500 and plan on upgrading to a better cpu so i can get a better gpu(1070)
if i go to ryen i need a new mobo and will buy a wraith max (i like it), but if i stay on my current mobo i already have a cooler (only intel compatible)
help plz?

The 7700K does all 4 cores at 4.5 GHz on an MCE-enabled board with decent cooling, a full 300-600 MHz more over a 65 watt constrained 7700, although admittedly the "K" variant will require a cooler.....

Understandable lust for the 8700k notwithstanding, the 7700K still holds it's own in gaming :)
I believe the Intel will perform better in gaming. But you will only need the i7 in certain games, you i7-7500 will do well for the most part.

If you did go with the i7 i would consider an i7-7700K on eBay for cheaper and a better cooler like the Cryorig H7. I know you probably can't OC but the K series is still faster at 4.5GHz. If you don't want to buy another cooler then stick to the non-K.

All core turbo boost on 7700K is 4.4GHz while all-core boost on 7700 is 4.0GHz if I'm not mistaken.

What is this for? Having performance issues?
Depending on what the system's being used for, neither the Ryzen 1600 or 7700 will be a real upgrade.
Ryzen 1600 comes with a Wraith cooler, no need to buy another.
Again, depending on usage, your current cpu may be enough.

I have a cryorig m9i and i plan on upgrading the gpu, and currently 1/2 of the games i play the i5 7500 is the bottleneck
Thx for your contribution i will be considering it

I mainly use this computer for gaming but i plan on upgrading my gpu later, currently my i5 is the bottleneck in 1/2 of the games i play and considering i 0lan on getting a better gpu that bottleneck will get worse and worse

How do you know your 7500 is “bottlenecking” in half of your games?

What GPU do you currently have that your 7500 is bottlenecking? Because a 7500 and a 1070 is a really good pairing. There are only a could of games that the 7500 will struggle, such as BF1.

In fact, if it were me and I would not get a new CPU and add that money to my GPU purchase and go for a 1080. In 90% of games a 7500 and a 1080 will get better fps than a 7700 and a 1070. The CPU is just not that important in gaming.

What kind of games and and what resolution are you running them at, and what is your existing graphics card? And what kind of FPS are you getting? Those other CPUs aren't really much faster than what you have. They have more threads available, but most existing games won't make heavy use of those threads, and should still run fine on a quad-core processor without hyperthreading, so long as you're not livestreaming your gameplay or something. Here's a comparison of the userbench results comparing those CPUs, that should be indicative of them being in a relatively similar performance range when it comes to quad-core and per-core performance...

The per-core performance of these CPUs are all relatively similar. A handful of games can benefit from having those additional threads, but in most that still isn't the case. Chances are that they won't run your games much better than the i5-7500.

I know because i use a cpu/gpu/ram/vram usage/temp monitor running when i play and most of the time the i5 is pegged at 100% while the 1070 sticks in the high 70s to low 80s
And i want to get a better cpu so i can go past a 1080

I play basically any game i find interesting (i played subnatuica for a week straight went to nuclear throne then to watch_dogs 2) i play them at 1080p and my average framerate changes per game, but i rarely dip under 60 on usually near max settings, games that i do see a dip under 60 fps is where the gpu is at 100% usage and cpu is under 20% (uncommon) or when the cpu is 100% but the gpu will be under 10% (still uncommon)
I run a 180hz monitor and i like the framerates high, but with my cpu the highest frame rate i usually get (on all games combined the averaged) is 90
