I have an FX 8350 on a Gigabyte 970A-DS3P, 16GB Hyper X DDR3 1600, nVidia GTX 1080 FE, 240 GB PNY SSD, 2 TB hybrid storage. It runs well but I am renting an Asus premade..i7 7700, GTX 1050 OC 2GB, DDR4 2400 8GB mem. The Asus is on a 32" 1080p @60hz, the FX is on a Samsung 55" 4K @60hz.
I was gong to keep the Asus but the ultimate tag price is $2400 and I could build 3 Mid level machines and still have spare cash at that price. Even with mem and GPU prices as they are.

Anyone think I should can the FX 8350 and pay out that lease computer or should I save dough, pick up an SFF i7 (3rd or 4th gen) off Ebay and go from there? It's that or try to build a cheap Ryzen. Mind you my GTX 1080 goes into the fastest build and this FX is enough of a bottleneck on anything under 4K.
Oh, I have also considered a XEON X5650 on X58 or an E5 Xeon on X99 ... Looking for higher IPC for the Ems that the FX 8350 just doesn't have.(I did consider delidding it, getting a copper IHS,an AIO and using liquid metal in and out to get to around 6 Ghz which I figure would then get me Ivy Bridge/Haswell like IPC on an FX, am I wrong to think that?)
I play alot of newer Ems like Cemu and I play AAA titles for the most part. I do some Digital Audio work and light video editing.

I'm confused. How many PCs do you need? If it's just the one, I'd just upgrade the CPU/board in your machine. The 1080 is a fine card.

As you pointed out, the rented (?) one costs a lot, so if you need more than one for whatever reason I'd build the second. Reuse your 8350 and what not on that and put the 1080 in your gamer. But I didn't see where you said you need more than one PC.

Two. One for gaming and general entertainment, the other as a server/second machine for the house.
Waited on an answer for a while and never got notified it was here, so I got a HP 8300 SFF w/i7 3770.
I'm now trying to build something with that and have started yet another thread as I move on.
