I'm wondering if Ryzen 5 1600 is better than i7 4790 for gaming or not, I've seen this comparison http://www.game-debate.com/cpu/index.php?pid=2463&pid2=2038&compare=ryzen-r5-1600-vs-core-i7-4790-4-core-3-6ghz
My current pc is
I5 4460
Asus GTX 960 2GB
8GB RAM
What i'm going to change :
CPU To I7 4790 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600
GPU to Asus GeForce GTX 1060 Dual - 6 Go
2x8GB RAM
PSU BE QUIET ATX 700W BN279 80PLUS Silver
and since i use alot of gaming/recording/ rendering I'm wondering if i will get a good perfomance if i replace my cpu with Ryzen 5 1600 instead of i7 4790, all I want to know is if there is a big difference between these two CPUs or not, I know Ryzen got more threads cores etc and that's good for rendering and streaming but the most things I care about are gaming performance and having smooth fps, which CPU should I pick?

The 4790 would be the cheaper and easier option, if you can find a cheap used one even better.
The R5 1600 is a complete platform upgrade since you will be needing a new motherboard and memory.

With a 1060 you will see very little difference between a 4790 and a 1600.
I would probably go with the 4790 for now, you could use the money saved from that to get a better graphics card like a 1070.
Just make sure to update the bios first before installing the 4790.

I would say that they are comparable in performance for pure gaming. Maybe overclock the 4790 if you have the k version. Otherwise I would say get another 8gb of ram and a better graphics card. Even if you go to say a 1060 6gb it would be a decent jump. Your current card is probably as good as a GTX 1050. So going from that to a 1060 or a 1070 should be a nice bump. Also, maybe add an SSD if you don't have one already. I'd say do that and you might have a couple more decent years with that box.

those two CPU's will perform pretty similarly. the benefit of going with the 4790 is that you will spend less money, but there is no upgrade path. if you go for the 1600 you will have to buy a new motherboard and RAM, but there will be CPU's compatable with your new motherboard coming out until 2020.

I do agree with what the last guy says. However, I would just say the GPU is going to make more difference right now for gaming than the CPU.

Don't get me wrong, I have a 1600. It's definitely a great CPU. I used to have an RX 480 8gb card, and could almost turn up most games to max at 1080p 60hz. I sold my card to make money during the mining craze. Picked up a 1050ti instead. It's an ok card, but sometimes I do wish I had my old card back.

The 4790 is still very much still in the game. It can handle a 1080 Ti but it's best to game at 1440p instead of 1080p. But you're pairing it with a 1060 so it'll be fine at 1080p. I wouldn't go for a new build until the 4790K needs to be replaced which is probably about 2 or 3 years from now.

Why did I say that? I'v looked into the 4790K but with what I have the upgrade wouldn't have been worth it.

For you, it's worth it, if you can find it used.
