Hello all,
I am having some trouble with my unmanaged network switch. As I am not very network-savvy, I will try my best to explain what I can in full depth, so bear with me. I have a modem connected to the cable Internet service. I then have a 5-port WLAN router connected to this modem. From port 4 of this router, I have a cable which runs to another router in the lower level of the house. From this second router, I am running a cable to a LINKSYS SD216 switch. I am using port 3 on the second router. I am not receiving any internet connection to computers connected to the switch, despite what ports are being used. Any help would be greatly appreciated with finding a solution. Thanks!

I don't know if I have DHCP enabled on the second router. How would I go about doing this? Incoming link to the second router is LAN.

Disconnect the second router from your LAN. Connect directly to a LAN port. Then attempt to access the router's admin page. That will tell you if you have DHCP enabled. You could have config problems on the second router, you could have bad cable(s) somewhere. You will have to simplify and see what the results are. For example, connect the switch directly to the incoming network in place of the second router. Does that work?

I logged into the second router's controls page, and couldn't find anything listed about DHCP. I then tried running the cable from the FIRST router directly into the switch, and this worked. Therefore, we can now assume that either the second router or the cable which connects the second router and switch is at fault. Interesting to note as well, I tried to connect the second router through the switch using the *possibly faulty* cable and got no results.

UPDATE: The cable was definitely the problem. I have internet on the router now by using a different cable to connect the router after the switch. Thanks for your insight!
