I’m planning on buying an m.2 sad but I was wondering if it would be worth it in the first place. Currently I have a 256gb Samsung 840 evo and a 1tb hdd. If I were to get an m.2 ssd and install my os on it and used my 840 evo as storage for my favorite games and my 1tb hdd as my regular storage, would the m.2 boost the performance of the other drives or would it only boost the ssd. Also would it even be worth it to get an m.2 ssd or just stay with my current drives. If it’s worth it, then what m.2 sad would you recommend that is worth its price tag, I don’t need anything too big as I would only be installing my is on it. Thank you for your time!

OK, that natively supports NVMe drives.

No, it does not "boost the performance of the other drives". It is its own thing.
OS and applications on it.

You'd want a 256GB or larger.

But depending on what you use this system for, you may not really notice the speed difference over regular SSD's.

The difference between an HDD and a SATA SSD is huge.
The difference between a SATA SSD and an NVMe drive...not so huge.

Moving from your current 840 EVO to an NVMe drive may or may not be the performance boost you expect.
