I had a problem which I could only solve with a Windows 10 reset. The reset went well and I have re-installed the files which were deleted by it. However I now have the following problem: -
When I start my PC there is a delay of about 5 to 10 seconds, the manufacturers screen appears and I am then presented with the American Megatrends screen inviting me to press F1 for setup. On the setup screen I make no changes at all and simply press the 'disregard changes and exit' button. There is a further delay of several seconds, the manufacturers screen appears again, followed by the little blue window and my normal desktop. Obviously, I don't want to start the machine this way each time.
I would be grateful if anyone can tell me what is going on and what I need to do to get back to normal.

Thank you for your help rocktalkrock but I could not get your solution to work. Why? This is what happened next: -

I had a 'chat' with Microsoft and they followed what appeared to be an obvious logical path. If my PC had been working normally and only recently gone wrong then the problem may have been an unexpected result of a recent update to the operating system. They therefore sent me an earlier version in the form of an ISO file. If I had installed it I would, of course, have had to disable the Windows Update to stop the problem from happening again. When I thought about it this was not a solution that I was entirely happy about and it did not give me a definitive answer.

I decided to contact the help desk at ASUS, the manufacturers of my motherboard, and they drove the nail in with a single blow. The answer was - wait for it - a dud battery on the motherboard. I replaced the battery, reset the system time and date and now my machine starts properly every time.
