overheating, computer shuts off

Just received a prebuilt computer. It started up fine then shut off after a few minutes of usage. I have observed the heat hit 80 degrees C after just turning it on without doing anything. After seeing that, I shut it off immediately. My guess is the cooler is not functioning properly. It is a Asetek 550LC liquid cooler. The fan behind the radiator seems to run fine, turning up the fan speed manually does not help. Is there anything I should try to fix this or should I call the manufacturer and ask for a new cooler?

Could this cooler not be compatible with my cpu? I have a ryzen 1600.

Any help would be really appreciated!

Solution
Either the pump has failed or the cooler is not installed properly. Touching the two tubings, one should be hot, other should be colder as the heat is exchanged. If both are in the same temp, the pump is not working. The cooler should fit Ryzen. Check whether the copper plate is in the right place or not. Should be fully locked on the cpu

If it’s still under warranty, you should go thru them as they are responsible to replace any faulty and defective unit free of charge.

Maybe the internals were damaged during shipping, or Perhaps the pump header was not connected by mistake...

The tubing is the same temperature. So I guess I should order a new cooler?

Are you not under warranty? They should replace the part if so. You should be able to hear the pump working if you get close to the copper plate. I am thinking the pump was fried if the circuit was not sealed properly and was filled with air. A new cooler will do the job of course.

It is under warranty. I am just slightly inclined to try and fix it myself instead of dealing with the manufacturer. They said they could give me a refund for the cooler. It should not be that difficult to fix on my own, correct? How easy do you think it would be to mess up the motherboard or CPU?

It;s not difficult to replace the cooler if this is what you are asking. There numerous guides and videos to drive you through. It is impossible to replace the pump on that cooler though. Get the refund since it's their fault. Add a small budget and buy a better/quality water cooler.

Yea I am thinking of ordering a new cooler and I'll get the ~$40 back from them. I just am not super excited to ship back the machine and have it sit there for a few more weeks if it is something that I could do myself.

In terms of quality, what do you think of this?

Amazon reviews seem good. A bit more expensive than the one I got with the computer, but I will gladly spend an extra $30 if it fixes my issues.

Also since the computer turns on and operates seemingly normally for a few minutes before eventually overheating, do you think everything else is in working condition?

Thanks so much for all of your help!

Not the best but decent. If you are not into heavy overclocking it will do just fine. Yes, since it boots and operates as intended nothing else should concern you. But do not use the pc. It's quite dangerous to overheat you cpu. Leave it till the cooler comes in. Good luck
