Hello guys. I recently upgraded from a 4th gen i5 to a i7 4790K. I own a Msi z87-g41 pc mate motherboard. I have tried overclocking but without much success. I have an AIO watercooling system that keeps my cpu at around 28 degrees celcius at stock idle, ~ 38C at normal load (game+chrome running) and 50 while running something like Cinebench R15.
So that's some background information. I thought I'd have plenty of room for overclocking. I set the clock to 4.8Ghz at around 1.3 volts and the pc literally just doesn't turn on. I tried setting the voltage a bit higher but to no avail, just doesn't turn on. I set the voltage to auto. It boots, but windows gives me error messages immediately on startup.
So I started lowering the overclock to a conservative 4.6Ghz at a voltage of 1.25. Doesn't turn on. In auto voltage it boots but again immediate crash when booting into windows.
In the end all I managed was an increase of 100Mhz to 4.5 at auto voltage. This boots into windows...
Anyone has some idea of what I might be doing wrong?
