On an intel motherboard, to access the boot menu I simply hit F10. When I am using a terminal emulator to access the boot menu, F10 no longer works and I have to hit ESC and 0 simultaneously. Can anybody explain why this is and advise me if there is an easier way than ESC0 when using a terminal emulator?

Solution
the emulator, or any other type of virtual machine can use whatever they want.
they usually assign some keys combination to avoid conflicts with other programs that are running. there is no such issue when you booting a real HW as there are no other programs that may use same key bindings.
