Overclocking an Intel Core i7 8700K 6x 3.70GHz

Deselected the BA. Didn't read the question properly.

As mentioned above, officially, the Z170 (or Z270 for that matter) do not "support" 8th Gen CPUs. They're socket compatible, but native support is not there.
Modded BIOS' are required to make things work, and are not recommended.

Z370 chipset boards are what you should be looking to pair with that CPU, outside of "proof of concepts" etc mentioned by @zyh1987.
Officially no, you need z370 mb to run coffeelake.

Unofficially yes. These are huge market in Asia where pc shop will sell u a mb with modified bios, on 1xx,2xx mb. There should not be much issue with 8350k or any of the i3 4 core cpu, however since 8xxx i5 and i7 require more power delivery, I think it’s potentially a fire hazard.you can diy it too, but, do it at your own risk, and I certainly won’t recommend it. Unless it’s for proof of concepts( for science!)

MERGED QUESTION
Question from yousefatia54 : "Overclocking an Intel Core i7 8700K 6x 3.70GHz using ASRock Z370M Pro4 - Motherboard - Mikro-ATX"

So guys i'm planning to upgrade my PC to :

ASRock Z370M Pro4 - Motherboard - Mikro-ATX
Intel Core i7 8700k 6x 3.70GHz
SSD 120GB + 1TB HDD
1x8GB DDR4 2666MHz
GTX 1060 3GB
PSU 500w or 550w

so i'm just wondering if this motherboard can really overclock the 8700k to 5.00GHz without facing any issues and i have only a normal fan cooler for my current cpu (i5 7400 3.00Ghz) can i use it for the 8700K ?
and does it matter if the motherboard is Mikro-ATX ?.
and which PSU should i buy 500w or 550w?
thanks.

I would highly doubt that board's capability to get to 5 ghz. To get 5 you need a good board like an Asus Maximus. Also you need a good cooler like a 240mm AIO or a Noctua NH-D15, even stock the stock i5-7400 Intel cooler is not going to cut it. And you 100% cannot overclock with that cooler.

You are also kneecapping yourself with only 1 ram dimm. Get a 2x4gb kit or a 2x8gb kit, Dual channel makes a large performance difference.

Also your PSU better be a good one, examples any Seasonic, Corsair TX or RMi, EVGA G2, Antec HCG. "550w" PSU is only the beginning. Many aren't worth the label printed on them.

Motherboard yes, cooler no. That i5 7400 is a 65w CPU and the cooler matches that. The 8700k has 2 more cores , higher TDP, and runs hotter, it needs a better cooler. Buy a Cryorig H7 its pretty reasonably priced.

I am re-selecting Barty's answer above as his was the correct answer to the original question.
