GTA V Crashing after 5 minutes

Hi,
I have recently bought GTA 5 from rockstar and I am unable to play smoothly as the game seems to crash 5 minutes in. Basically I get the "GTA V has stopped working" message and the option to reboot in safe mode. I don't understand why its doing this as I have the required specs to play.

Most likely either a driver, or temperature issue... I would imagine.

When the game crashes, are you returned to the desktop? Or is it a forced shutdown/reboot situation, where you're prompted to enter safemode upon booting?
Driver issues will typically* return you to the desktop. Shutdowns are typically* temperature related.

*Typically, not definitively.

The screen freezes/goes black and then a message from windows tells me that the game has stopped working, with the option "close program"
